“Why?”

It has lots of ‘zat’ -- which is the turquoise's “wow” factor. The frame for it is a brilliant mix of precision repousse and stamping. Bird’s Eye Kingman is really good stuff.

“What’s Bird’s Eye Kingman?”

It’s a type of turquoise from the Kingman mining claims in Arizona. Bird’s Eye is a name given to the properties of turquoise. It has these small dots that are really pretty.

“What’s the brown part?”

The brown part is the host stone for the turquoise. Turquoise itself is a stone. But it’s formed when water passes through aluminum, iron, coppers, and various phosphates (easy answer). In some dry climates, over millions of years, anhydrous phosphate of aluminum and copper” is formed. We call that rock “turquoise”. Which is a French name that is defined as “turkish stone”. An early supply of turquoise came from Persia and made it to Europe via trade with the Turks. Hence the name.

Green in turquoise usually comes from iron in the chemical formula. It also can come from other processes when the turquoise is being formed -- like the presence of other stones formed before, during or after the turquoise is formed. In this case, it’s normal variegation that happens in natural stones. In some cases you get a really beautiful gem like this one. Where there’s a green coloration under the blue Bird’s Eye dots. What does this mean? It’s part of what makes the turquoise gems rare. No two are exactly alike -- especially when it comes to turquoise with features like webbing and such.

“What can I do with this?”

Well, it’s jewelry. It’s meant to be worn so you make it look even more special.

“What if I don’t look special?”
