TRADITION
Animal-head terminals are one of the oldest forms in metalwork, going back through Etruscan, Greek, and Persian smithing. The terminal head guards the open ends of a torque cuff, faces outward, makes the cuff feel like a pair of eyes watching the wrist. Greek silversmiths revived this form in the mid 20th century and the design has been refined and reinterpreted ever since.
THE PIECE
Sterling silver torque cuff with two detailed tiger heads at the open terminals. Each head is carved with prominent striping along the brow and cheek, individual whisker lines, and a textured mane area. The round-wire body is smooth polished sterling, contrasting cleanly against the heavily worked terminals. Open-ended, slips on at the wrist's narrow side. Mid 20th to late 20th century, in the Greek revival tradition.
