Sterling Silver Nacozari Turquoise Navajo Cuff

A modern cuff with a gorgeous piece of teal Nacozari turquoise as its centerpiece. The Nacozari (naco for short) has its usual exciting blues and greens mixed with it’s gray/white matrix (from the aluminum). Naco is a pleasure to behold because it’s expressive color but it also takes polishing quite well -- not unlike it’s cousin, campitos turquoise.

This piece is a more “modern” style of Navajo silverwork. Not because it’s meant to be “modern”, but as artists branch out and try new things, designs like these pop into circulation. This piece can be worn the same way one would wear more “traditional” pieces. Traditional pieces often contain symbols Navajo folks agreed upon for trade such as thunderbirds, hogans, cactus flowers, etc. Modern pieces may not have any of that work, and focus on geometric shapes, etc. It’s essentially meaningless outside of aesthetics and the artist’s vision/choice for each piece.

Caring for this piece is a breeze! Simply wipe it with a dry cloth. The oxidized (black) parts of it will show some wear over time -- that’s intended. It could’ve been painted and enameled, but the choice of oxidation means it develops these really cool wear patterns that demonstrate age, but also certifies amongst those of us who know silver quite well that it’s actually silver (you just learned a little secret in the business!).

I don’t think my words can do it justice. I tried, but it’s a gorgeous bracelet that you need in your collection. That’s all.
